Following the Labour Government choosing to cut the Winter Fuel Allowance for thousands of Pensioners in Hillingdon, Conservative run Hillingdon Council have announced a range of measures to support older people in the coming Winter months.
Ruislip, Northwood & Pinner and Hayes & Harlington MPs, David Simmonds and John McDonnell voted against the cut. The only Hillingdon MP who voted to cut the grant from local pensioners was the Labour MP for Uxbridge & South Ruislip.
The proposals were announced by Leader of the Council, Cllr Ian Edwards, last week in response to the cut in winter fuel payments by the government, a move that will impact thousands of pensioners in the borough.
Hillingdon Conservatives will continue to protect local pensioners as best we can, with local Conservative Councillors re-affiriming their commitment to various initiatives including heater loan schemes, tea dances, telecare support lines, along with free swimming lessons, allotments and social activities.
This new and additional support will include the creation of a Pensioners' Support Fund to help eligible older residents stay warm this winter.
